Every night
Rain, Fritters and Tea
I inhaled deep and slow. The smell of soil in rain gave me an instant orgasm. We were watching Nohkalikai Falls from the balcony of a small restaurant while it was raining outside. The owner told us that we were really luckily that we were having a clear view of the fall which most other tourists can’t experience.
Meghalaya. Abode of clouds. It was a paradise for rain lovers like me. And we were at the heart of that place, Cherrapunjee, known for highest rainfall in the world. The cab driver brought us fritters and tea. Bliss! I dare you to name a better trio than rain, fritters and tea.

Nohkalikai Falls, Cherrapunjee, Meghalaya
After having our snacks, we were ready to move ahead. We were literally floating above the clouds. The cab driver told us about the place becomes dry during winters and people suffer shortage of water. Ironical, isn’t it? World’s wettest place runs out of water.
Moving ahead we reached to see a single rock formation of about 200ft in height. Local tribal tales say that it was the basket of a giant who once used to terrorize the locals. One could see Bangladesh territory from there.

Beside from rains and clouds, ‘waterfalls’ was the second most common thing that you would see there. Seven sisters fall, representing each of seven states of North East India, was in the top priority list of tourists. Driver told us that we have another Seven Sisters’ Fall in Sikkim too.
People of Meghalaya live in harmony of nature. It was one of the cleanest place we have ever seen. State government has imposed a ban on cutting of trees. For every tree cut, you have to plant a new one and have take care of it.
While returning we visited the highest point of Shillong known by the name of Shillong point. It provided a whole panoramic view of the whole capital city. One could see that houses weren’t in the valley but built along the hill. I wish I could cycle while going downhill, drinking rainwater with my tongue sticking outside. You can find some pineapple stalls there which would serve sour and sweet pineapple with red chilies sprinkled all over it. Yummy! Isn’t it?
Oh yes! I forgot to introduce you all to my crab friend which we found in one of streams of a waterfall.
